In 1902 Lloyds of London built a Hailing Station at the end of the jetty. It was staffed by a worker who would shout to passing skippers, from a small hut. The Hailing Station finally closed in 1969 and the hut disappeared in 2003.
Today, all that is left are the wooden timber piles which inspired this piece. It is made from pieces of wood collected over the years from old mine sites and the lake shores in Cumbria. Crocheted and knitted wire evoke the feeling of chains and nets and Lutradur has been painted, distressed with a heat gun and stitched to create the seaweed.
